PRO HEALTH TIP: Put Your Fork DOWN When Melatonin Is ELEVATED

I'm going to make this post fast because the conclusion is pretty self evident.

There are many reasons to eat only when the sun is up, the fact that food triggers peripheral clocks and reinforces your circadian rhythm making your body work more efficiently is one of those big reasons. 

But the reason to eat when its light and fast when its dark I want to talk about today concerns your blood sugar and melatonin.

In this paper, we see that when melatonin is elevated at the same time there is food intake, glucose control goes down. 

It also shows that when melatonin is elevated during fasting, b cell recovery improves. Better b cells equal a better immune system and better blood sugar control.

Ok, great Bobby. SO what does this paper mean to me? How can I use it to make my health better?

It is very simple.

Do not eat when melatonin levels are high!

Or in other words, do not eat at night because your melatonin levels are higher during darkness and your blood glucose control will be worse.

And, IF you do eat at night when it is dark, it is best to eat a meal with the lower glucose load....like keto with lots of protein and fat and less carbs instead of pasta and a banna split sundae. Also reducing the amount of food you eat at night will help as well. Make breakfast your dinner or biggest meal of the day.

Also, if you are popping melatonin pills, don't pop them with food.
